Playing ball

The first Lucky Dip winner will win a ticket to the House of Kerry GAA raffle in Killarney.

The September 27 draw took place on our property. The draw was made by club secretary Fionnán Fitzgerald and Maureen O’Shea. The numbers drawn were: 9,14,17 and 27. Ballymac GAA is now selling our lottery tickets via Mobile. All you need to do is give us your numbers, cell phone number, and payment. We enter by mobile phone and you get a receipt on your mobile. Defibrillators

The camp defibrillator committee would like to remind the camp community that defibrillator cases are always unlocked and ready for use. these refresher courses are funded from the camp defibrillator fund, so don’t miss this opportunity. Even if you just want to sit in the back and listen, it can save a life in the future.

Radio Kerry Award

Congratulations to Radio Kerry for their fantastic success at the recent National IMRO Radio Awards Terrace Talk presented by Eamonn Hickson and produced by Ivan Hurley won gold for a wonderful tribute to the late Jerry Kiernan A phenomenal achievement by everyone at Radio Kerry and just a recognition of their superb record of excellence in local broadcasting.

Charity cycle

Charity cycle for Beaumont ICU & UHK Cardiac Rehab.

Ann Eager has successfully completed a charity bike ride (over 500km) from Derry Beag, Co Donegal to Derrymore. The cycle began on Monday September 27 and ended on Saturday October 2. The cycle supports the intensive care unit at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at University Hospital Co Kerry. Kudos to Ann who embarked on this gigantic cycle in memory of her late sister Pauline Lynch, who sadly passed away unexpectedly in December 2019. Pauline was an extraordinary family person, full of life and always smiling. This is reflected in her three beautiful children. Ann, from Ballymacelligott itself, has been well known at Camp as a member of the Camp Drama Group since its inception 10 years ago. Full report on the Facebook page. Morning Coffee Ash

Well done to Ann and everyone at Ashes Coffee who organized a lovely coffee morning Tuesday to benefit Kerry Hospice Associaiton. Everyone enjoyed lovely pastries so generously sponsored by Ann and her friends.

Fundraising

Dip In the Nip was held at Shoreacre Camp to raise funds for Recovery Haven in Tralee. Over 170 women participated who had either suffered from cancer themselves or an affected family member or friend. Well done and congratulations to everyone who participated. There is no doubt that the money collected will be used wisely.

GAA News

Congratulations to Annascaul for such a great championship, no luck on Sunday! Beidh lá eile, Annascaul abú! After the game, Chris O Driscoll made a special presentation to Jack Farrell, the 2021 recipient of the Brendan ‘Bawnie’ O’Driscoll Scholarship. Good luck to Jack with his studies.

Adventure Race World Championship

The DAR Dingle team is in Spain to participate in the World Championship Adventure Race. The course is open for 7 days from Saturday October 2. The 1st stage is a 122km trek with 5800m of vertical drop. An incredible test of strength and endurance for sure and how wonderful it is to see the Dingle Peninsula ably represented by Noel O’Leary, Joe O’leary, Colm Casey and local camp athlete Ailise Deane . Good luck, go n-éirí an tadh libh! The Peninsula is proud of you all!

Obituaries

Our condolences go out to the family of Chrissey Flynn (née Scanlon), Keelballylahive, who passed away peacefully on September 21, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Predeceased by her loving husband Jackie. His beloved sons Jerry and John, his daughters Mary Joe and Ann, his sister Margaret, his brother-in-law Jerry, his sister-in-law Cauty, his daughters-in-law, his sons-in-law, his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Chrissey was a great Camogie player in her younger days, athletic and still walking, she also loved to dance and won a few Polka Set competitions in her time. Chrissey was a lovely person with a great personality. Rest in peace Chrissey!

Sympathy is also extended to Michael Rice and his daughter Sarah on the sad passing of beloved wife and mother Marcella Rice. Marcella of Woodstream, Coolaney and Enniscrone, Sligo passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the North West Hospice. She will be sadly missed by all her family and the Rice family in Cappaclough, Camp who have enjoyed her visits over the years. Our condolences also extend to Pat Hennessy and Hannah, Curra, Camp and the whole family on the recent passing of Pat’s Mother, Peggy Hennessy (née Clohessy) Querrin Shore, Kilkee / Dooncaha, County Clare. Rest in peace.

Castlemaine Fair

Castlemaine Fair Day will take place at the Griffins parking lot in the village of Castlemaine on Sunday October 10 in memory of John O’Donoghue. The event will start at 10:00 am and all proceeds will go to Kerry Hospice, University Hospital Kerry. Donations of animals welcome for auction on the day of the Palliative Care Unit at Kerry University Hospital. Congratulations

Congratulations to the students of Aughacasla School who made their First Communion at St. Marys Church, Camp on Saturday. Bro. Eamonn Mulvihill officiated. Well done to all teachers and parents! And Fr. Mulvihill who always takes time for everyone in the parish despite a very busy schedule of parish tasks and activities. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go leir!

Opinion

The office is open again. The club rooms are still not in use, but the West End Lobby is. If you need to use a room for anything, please call us at the office to reserve the West End Room when available. All of our regular tenants are now using the West End Lobby until further notice, so slots will be limited.

Kerry Hospice

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, we will not be holding our annual Coffee Matinee this year. We leave Hospice buckets in Castlegregory and Cloghane stores for donations if people wish to support this noble cause. Or you can donate to any committee member. Many thanks for all of your support over the years.

Camp Sainte-Marie

There is no longer a Sunday mass at 12 noon. Mass is a vigil mass every second Saturday at 6.15 p.m. (he alternates with St. Brendan’s Cloghane). Please consult the weekly parish bulletins for the exact dates of these masses.
