Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke
We are pleased to announce that David Hartwig has joined the Linn Stamp News team as associate editor. Hartwig started working last fall and has taken on various roles with the publication, including working with the design team for layout by Linn.
He has also written a number of articles in new issues and edited feature articles.
Hartwig grew up surrounded by his extended family in a small town in western Ohio. After high school, he attended the University of Toledo, studied English literature and anthropology, and eventually earned a master’s degree in English literature.
In the years after graduation, he spent time teaching writing classes in college, working as a greenhouse grower, and editing content for a marketing department.
“Since joining by Linn I’ve found that stamp collecting sparks the same kind of curiosity that I once found studying ancient peoples and contemporary cultures in my college anthropology classes,” Hartwig said. “The emphasis on history, geography and current events is also very interesting to me.”
Since he discovered the world of stamps, he started a modest collection of stamps around the world, which fascinated him for the first French definitives. He also researches the postal history of his native region and first day covers for literary subjects.
Outside of stamp collecting, Hartwig enjoys reading and exploring nature.
