CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Emergency COVID-19 assistance for federal student loans ends January 31, 2022, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi wants to ensure students and community members with deferred student loans are ready to be repaid.
TAMU-CC will be hosting a Loan Repayment Workshop on Friday, January 7 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for everyone in the community, regardless of what college or university they attended. The university will have experts to help with loan consolidation, income-based repayment plans, public student loan cancellation, and the teacher loan cancellation process.
The Trump administration imposed a moratorium on student loan repayments at the start of the pandemic. Since then, borrowers have not been required to make monthly payments on their loans.
In August, the White House extended the pause on student loan repayments until January 2022. When asked on December 13 whether the Biden administration was considering extending the moratorium on loan repayments, the press secretary Jen Psaki said a “smooth transition to reimbursement is a high priority for the administration.
