Which Vizio smart TV is the best?
Buying a TV is getting more and more complicated. Different brands use different terms for effectively the same things. Some of them are smart and intuitive while others are not. There are also endless acronyms and jargon with difficult-to-understand meanings. One thing is certain, however, is the quality and usability of Vizio smart TVs.
The best of all smart TVs from Vizio is the Vizio P-Series Quantum X 4K HDR Smart TV. This Vizio smart TV meets every possible need, from high-quality cinematic experiences to the smoothest possible gaming connections.
What to know before buying a Vizio Smart TV
Types of LED screens in your Vizio Smart TV
There are three main types of LED screens in your potential Vizio Smart TV: LED, OLED, and FALD. Everyone is a little different. Choose the one that will best meet your visual needs. For more information, visit BestReviews’ Vizio Smart TV Buying Guide.
LED TVs: LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. LEDs serve as the backbone of liquid crystal display – more commonly known as LCD screens – televisions. Here, the light is projected from the back of the TV towards the pixels. They’re not as clear or detailed as more advanced TV display systems, but the trade-off makes them brighter and they can be much larger too.
FALD or XLED TVs: Full-array local dimming TVs combine the characteristics of LED and OLED TVs and exist in a spectrum of quality in between. They’re still backlit, like LED TVs, but are better at blocking light from entering pixels that shouldn’t receive the extra light.
However, you won’t see FALD marked on your potential TV. Vizio markets this technology as XLED instead to try to limit customer confusion between display types.
OLEDs: Biological Light-emitting diodes, or OLEDs, mean that each individual pixel is lit separately from all other pixels and only when that pixel should be on. This gives your screen an amazing color gamut and OLED screens are the closest thing to seeing a color as it exists in nature. Blacks are the deepest blacks possible by not illuminating the pixel at all, and different viewing angles maintain uniformity and avoid distortion much better than LED screens. The only downside is that OLED TVs are generally smaller than most while costing more.
What to Look for in a Quality Vizio Smart TV
Ring: Vizio smart TVs, like most TVs, are known for affordability and screens, not sound quality. Although some Vizio smart TVs may sound a bit better than others, adding a soundbar or speakers to your home setup is highly recommended. Keep in mind that these will use some of the ports on your Vizio Smart TV.
Mounts: If you don’t want to use up more space in your home with a TV stand, you’ll need to get a wall mount instead. Most televisions use a mount compatibility system called VESA to allow the use of any third-party mount on said television. Vizio generally follows the VESA system, but double check your Vizio Smart TV and potential mount before purchasing.
How much you can expect to spend on a Vizio Smart TV
Vizio smart TVs are some of the most affordable smart TVs on the market, but they can still cost a pretty penny. A Vizio smart TV that costs between $500 and $1,000 will usually give you the features you’re looking for with the size you want, but won’t necessarily have all the features on your list. Spending over $1,000 will ensure you get everything you want in a Vizio smart TV.
Vizio Smart TV FAQs
Do any Vizio smart TVs include a digital assistant?
A. They do not include it per se. If you have a digital assistant like Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri, most Vizio smart TVs will be able to connect to and be controlled by your phone or other smart home device as long as all of those devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Can my Vizio Smart TV receive my locally broadcast channels?
A. Unfortunately no. While Vizio and other brands still market their “TVs” as TVs, they are technically just a display because they don’t include the hardware to translate live signals. You will need some additional equipment to receive your local channels.
