amazing spider man #316 was released over a year after Marvel’s Venom first appeared. This is only the character’s third appearance, but their first appearance on the cover, which – notably drawn by Todd McFarlane, has made it a collector’s item lately. That’s why this 9.8 CGC-slab copy of amazing spider man #316 will fetch a pretty penny on Heritage Auctions’ current auction list for such titles and has bids totaling over $400 so far and rising, before going under the hammer later today. Recent eBay sales of this comic at this level have seen copies go for just under a thousand dollars, so as it stands it’s a pretty good deal considering the market.

Written by David Michelinie and drawn by Todd McFarlane, the comic teases, “Venom may be stalking a spider, but he found Black Cat instead! What happens when Eddie Brock finds out Peter’s address? Parker?” Eddie Brock as Venom attempts revenge on Peter Parker, Spider-Man, after escaping from being imprisoned in the Vault – but he only has Parker’s old address, and it’s where Venom meets the Black Cat, also looking for Spider-Man. Mary Jane also sees Venom in their old home, causing Peter Parker to take a proactive approach to finding Venom rather than waiting to be hunted down. The fight ends in a draw, but Venom gets a change of address card from Peter’s clothes that reveals exactly where to find him…the game continues.
